Which airport, and what the journey costs

Airports for Denia

Denia has no airport of its own, and it is the one destination we cover where naming the nearest airport does not settle the question. Alicante-Elche is 104 km away and Valencia about 115, a difference of some eleven kilometres and roughly ten minutes of driving. On every other route on this site the second airport is two or three times further and the choice makes itself. Here it is genuinely open, and flight price and schedule can reasonably decide it.

What the journey costs

Every figure here is the same one the route guide shows, read from the same record. Prices say what kind of price they are, and a coach fare charged per person is not comparable with a vehicle price without doing the arithmetic for your own group.

Other airports that can reach Denia

These are further away and TransferSelect does not cover transfers from them. They are listed so the choice above can be judged against something rather than taken on trust.

  • Valencia Airport (VLC)About 115 km by road

Only about 11 km further than Alicante, which makes Denia the one destination we cover where the second airport is a real contest. TransferSelect does not cover transfers from it, so price the transfer as well as the flight.

  • Region de Murcia International Airport (RMU)About 195 km by road

Nearly 200 km, and beyond Alicante rather than towards Denia. Not a practical arrival airport.

Why the two airports are so close to level

Denia sits at the northern end of the Marina Alta, near the point where the Costa Blanca gives way to the province of Valencia. Drive south and you reach Alicante; drive north and you reach Valencia; the town is close to the midpoint. What tips it slightly towards Alicante is not distance but connection: Alicante-Elche is the airport with the transfer market, the regulated taxi tariff we can quote and the coach connection Aena lists. Fly into Valencia and the journey is about ten minutes longer, but you arrange the ground leg yourself, and we do not cover transfers from it so we cannot tell you what one costs. Our advice is not to assume either airport, but to price both flights and both transfers as one number.

104 km changes what the transfer costs

The road from Alicante runs on the A-70 and then the AP-7 for almost the whole distance, leaving the motorway at Ondara for the last few kilometres on the CV-725. It is a fast road, and 104 km takes little more than an hour and a quarter when it is clear. What the distance does affect is the price. A regulated taxi charges by the kilometre the whole way, so the official ceiling for this journey is between 144 and 168 EUR for the vehicle, and unlike the shorter routes on this site a private transfer quoted for the journey as a whole will often come in below it. That reversal is worth knowing before you join the rank.

The coach exists, and we cannot yet tell you when it runs

Aena lists an ALSA coach connection from the airport to Denia, boarding at the departures roadway and calling at Alicante, Alicante train station, Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer. That much is verified. Its fare, its first and last departures and its frequency are not, because ALSA's booking engine is behind a queue system we cannot read and no other primary source publishes this line's timetable. Over 104 km with four stops on the way, the timetable is the whole question, so confirm it with ALSA rather than assuming the service is frequent.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport should I fly into for Denia?

Either Alicante-Elche or Valencia, honestly. Alicante is 104 km away and Valencia about 115, so the distances are close enough that flight price and timing can decide. Alicante has the better transfer options, which is the tiebreaker if the flights are equal.

How far is Denia from Valencia airport?

About 115 km, or roughly an hour and a half of driving. That is only some eleven kilometres more than the journey from Alicante, which is why Denia is the one destination we cover where the second airport is a real contender.

How far is Denia from Alicante airport?

About 104 km by road and around 75 minutes in free-flowing traffic, almost all of it on the A-70 and AP-7. A regulated taxi for that journey runs between about 144 and 168 EUR for the vehicle.

Can I get from the airport to Denia by public transport?

Aena lists an ALSA coach that boards at the departures roadway and calls at Alicante, Alicante train station, Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer. We have not been able to verify its fare or timetable, so treat it as an option to confirm with the operator rather than one to plan around.
