Which airport, and what the journey costs

Airports for Calpe

Calpe has no airport of its own. Alicante-Elche is the one to fly into, 76 km down the coast and about an hour by road, and it is the only airport with a serious claim to the journey. Valencia is the alternative worth knowing about at roughly 130 km, which is an hour and a half of driving rather than an hour: far enough that it needs a real fare saving to justify, close enough that it is not absurd. Region de Murcia, at about 170 km and on the far side of Alicante, is not a candidate.

Every figure here is the same one the route guide shows, read from the same record. Prices say what kind of price they are, and a coach fare charged per person is not comparable with a vehicle price without doing the arithmetic for your own group.

Other airports that can reach Calpe

These are further away and TransferSelect does not cover transfers from them. They are listed so the choice above can be judged against something rather than taken on trust.

  • Valencia Airport (VLC)About 130 km by road

The closest alternative for this destination, at about 130 km against 76 km from Alicante, and roughly an hour and a half of driving. Worth pricing if a flight into it is much cheaper. TransferSelect does not cover transfers from it.

  • Region de Murcia International Airport (RMU)About 170 km by road

Well over two hours of driving, and on the far side of Alicante. Not a practical arrival airport for Calpe.

Calpe sits between two airports, but not evenly

Calpe is on the Marina Alta, north of Benidorm and past Altea, which puts it further up the coast than most of the resorts Alicante serves. That is why Valencia enters the conversation here at all: at 130 km it is closer to Calpe than it is to Benidorm by a long way. It is still nearly twice the distance from Alicante, though, and the transfer market reflects that. Alicante is where the operators, the coaches and the regulated taxi rank are, and where you will find someone willing to drive you at a known price. Fly into Valencia only if the fare difference covers the extra ground and you have arranged the transfer before you go.

The distance is mostly motorway, which changes what it costs you

The road runs out of the airport on the N-338, joins the A-70 around Alicante and then the AP-7 up the coast, dropping onto the N-332 for the last stretch into town. Two routing engines agree on both the corridor and the distance to within 300 metres. The practical consequence is that Calpe is 18 km further from the airport than Benidorm but only about fifteen minutes further in driving time. A regulated taxi still charges by the kilometre, so the fare does rise with the distance, but the hour you spend is an easier hour than the same distance on a coastal road would be.

The coach exists, and we cannot yet tell you when it runs

Aena lists an ALSA coach connection from the airport to Calpe, boarding at the departures roadway and calling at Alicante, Alicante train station, Alfaz del Pi and Altea. That is verified. Its fare, its first and last departures and how often it goes are not, because ALSA's booking engine is behind a queue system we cannot read and no other primary source publishes this line's timetable. We would rather leave a gap than fill it from a source we could not defend, so if the coach is how you plan to travel, confirm the times with ALSA before you count on them.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport should I fly into for Calpe?

Alicante-Elche, at 76 km and about an hour by road. It is the nearest airport and the one with the transfer options. Valencia at about 130 km is the only alternative worth pricing.

How far is Calpe from Valencia airport?

About 130 km, or roughly an hour and a half of driving. That is nearly twice the distance from Alicante, so it takes a meaningful fare saving to be worth it, and you would need to arrange the transfer yourself.

Is Calpe far from Alicante airport?

76 km, which sounds further than it feels: almost all of it is motorway, so the free-flowing drive is about 55 to 60 minutes. A regulated taxi for that journey is between about 108 and 126 EUR for the vehicle.

Can I get from the airport to Calpe by public transport?

Aena lists an ALSA coach that boards at the departures roadway and calls at Alicante, Alicante train station, Alfaz del Pi and Altea. We have not been able to verify its fare or its timetable, so treat it as an option to confirm with the operator rather than one to plan around.
