Benidorm has no airport of its own, so almost every visitor arrives at Alicante-Elche airport and covers the last 58 km by road, on the A-70 and AP-7. The direct ALSA coach is scheduled at 45 minutes to Benidorm Bus Station and was showing from 7.99 EUR per person when we checked. A taxi covers the same ground in roughly 40 to 45 minutes and takes you to your door, on the official regulated tariff. The coach is far cheaper; everything else is a question of luggage, group size and what time you land.

Which transfer should you choose?

There is no single right answer on this route, so here is the honest split. First, read the prices carefully, because they are not quoted the same way: the coach fare is per person, while the taxi and private transfer figures are for the whole vehicle. Four people on the coach is about 32 EUR in total against a taxi's 82 EUR floor, so the coach stays the cheaper option even for a group, but the gap narrows as the party grows. The coach wins on cost by a wide margin and is barely slower than driving: 45 minutes scheduled against roughly 40 to 45 minutes by road. Take it if you are travelling light and landing during the day. Choose a taxi or a private transfer when the coach's limitations actually bite: it sets down at Benidorm Bus Station or Avenida Europa rather than at your accommodation, so with heavy cases, small children or a hotel away from those stops you will be paying for another leg anyway. A taxi needs no booking and is the cheaper of the two door-to-door options. A private transfer costs more and buys certainty instead: a price fixed before you fly and a vehicle sized for your group. One caveat we cannot yet close: we have not verified the first and last coach departures, so if you land late in the evening do not assume the coach is running.

Travelling light, on a budget

Bus

The coach is the cheapest option on this route by a wide margin, and only a few minutes slower than driving. It works if you can manage the last stretch from the bus station or Avenida Europa with what you are carrying.

Families, groups or heavy luggage

Private transfer

You are met in arrivals and driven to your address, in a vehicle booked for the size of your group. That removes the leg from the coach stop to your accommodation, which is where families and heavy cases tend to lose whatever the cheaper fare saved.

Taxi

The rank is on the arrivals roadway and needs no booking, so there is nothing to arrange before you fly. Fares follow the official regulated tariff rather than a meter, with a fixed airport supplement on top.

Landing late in the evening

Taxi

A taxi does not depend on a timetable and needs no advance booking, which is what matters when a flight lands late. Expect the higher night, Sunday and holiday tariff rather than the daytime one.

Not verified: We have not verified the first and last coach departures, the frequency or which days the service runs, so do not assume the coach is still running when you land.

A private transfer is booked before you travel, and the driver meets you in arrivals and takes you to your address. It costs more than the taxi rank for the same journey, so what you are paying for is certainty: a price fixed in advance, a named driver and a vehicle sized for your group and luggage. That trade is usually worth it for families, larger groups and anyone landing late, and rarely worth it for one or two people travelling light in the daytime. We do not print a private transfer price here, because provider prices move and a figure fixed into this page would go stale: use the link to check the current price at Viator before you decide.

The rank is on the arrivals roadway and needs no booking, which makes it the simplest option if you land without a plan. Fares are not metered freely: they follow the Generalitat's official interurban tariff, because Benidorm lies outside Elche, and a fixed airport supplement is added. Those published rates are maximums, so the figure in the comparison is what the regulated tariff allows for this distance rather than a quoted price. The night, Sunday and holiday tariff is materially higher than the daytime one, which is the single biggest thing to know before you get in.

Official regulated tariff rather than a meter-free negotiated price. Benidorm is outside Elche, so the Generalitat's interurban schedule applies: 1.65 EUR pick-up plus 1.34 EUR per km on the ordinary tariff, and 2.25 EUR plus 1.55 EUR per km on the special tariff, which covers 21:00 to 07:00 on working days including Saturday, and all day on Sundays and holidays. The airport supplement is added on top. Published amounts are maximums.

ALSA runs the service and the airport describes it as a direct connection without stops, so it does not detour through Alicante city. Coaches leave from the bus stop on the departures roadway rather than from arrivals, which means going up a level after you collect your bags. Services are timed at 45 minutes to Benidorm Bus Station, and 55 minutes on the runs that continue to Avenida Europa. When we checked, fares started at 7.99 EUR per person. Online sale varied between departures in the same search, so if your service cannot be booked online you buy at a point of sale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way from Alicante Airport to Benidorm?

The ALSA coach. Fares started at 7.99 EUR per person when we checked, against a regulated taxi tariff in the eighties to high nineties of euros for the vehicle. The coach stays the cheapest option even for a group of seven.

Why is the coach fare per person but the taxi price per vehicle?

Because that is how each is sold. The coach charges each traveller, so its cost rises with your party size. A taxi and a private transfer are priced for the vehicle, so the cost is shared. Four people on the coach is about 32 EUR in total against a taxi floor of 82 EUR, so the coach is still cheaper, but comparing the headline numbers directly would be misleading.

How long does the coach take?

Services are scheduled at 45 minutes to Benidorm Bus Station. Runs that continue to Avenida Europa are timed at 55 minutes, because that stop comes later on the same journey rather than on a slower route.

Where does the coach arrive in Benidorm?

At Benidorm Bus Station, and on some services at Benidorm Avenida Europa. Neither is your accommodation, so factor in the last leg when comparing with a taxi.

Are Alicante Airport taxi fares metered?

No. Airport taxi fares follow official published tariffs rather than the meter, and an airport supplement is added to every journey. Benidorm is outside Elche, so the Generalitat's interurban tariff applies, and the night, Sunday and holiday rate is higher than the daytime one.

How far is Benidorm from Alicante Airport?

About 58 km by road, on the A-70 and AP-7. Two independent routing engines put the free-flowing drive at roughly 40 to 45 minutes, which is a floor rather than a typical time: summer and weekend traffic on this corridor can add to it.

Does Benidorm have its own airport?

No. Benidorm has no commercial airport. Alicante-Elche is the airport we cover for reaching it.
