The airport is between the city and the town
Malaga-Costa del Sol sits southwest of Malaga city and northeast of Torremolinos, which is why the run is nine kilometres rather than the twenty or more that most resorts on this coast are from it. Two independent routing engines returned 8.59 and 8.60 kilometres, ten metres apart, the closest agreement of any measurement this site holds.
Where the minimum fare bites
Malaga's regulated taxi tariff puts a floor under the fare: 17.37 EUR on weekdays from 06:00 to 22:00 and 24.93 EUR in the dearest band. Nine kilometres at 1.00 EUR a kilometre plus a 1.79 EUR flag drop is 10.38 EUR, well under the floor, so the floor is what you pay. A ride to Torremolinos therefore costs nearly as much as one three times longer, and it is not a surcharge or a driver's choice but the published rate.
What we could not verify
The airport operator names every service calling here: an express line to Malaga city, two local routes, intercity coaches to Marbella, Estepona and Nerja, and the Cercanias C1 railway from the airport's own platform. None of them is named for Torremolinos, and the railway's published times list Fuengirola, Benalmadena and two Malaga stations without it. The town lies between the airport and Benalmadena so a connection very probably exists. Probably is not verified, and this site does not print a stop it has not read in a source.
