Torremolinos is 9 km from Malaga-Costa del Sol, ten to fifteen minutes, and it is the shortest airport transfer on this site. Two routing engines agree on the distance to within ten metres, the closest agreement of any measurement we hold. The regulated taxi comes to 17 to 25 EUR, and the interesting part is why: on a journey this short the meter never reaches the minimum fare, so the minimum is what you pay.

Which transfer should you choose?

Almost every route on this site is a question about distance. This one is a question about the floor under the fare. The airport sits between Malaga and Torremolinos, so the drive is nine kilometres, but the regulated minimum is 17.37 EUR on a weekday and 24.93 EUR in the dearest band, and the meter reaches neither. That means the ride costs nearly as much as one three times longer, and it also means there is very little a pre-booked transfer can save you.

Whatever the size of your party

Taxi

The fare is the regulated minimum rather than a metered sum, so it does not change with the distance you actually cover within the town, and it is for the vehicle rather than per head. Two people or five, it is the same 17 to 25 EUR.

The dearest band lifts the minimum from 17.37 to 24.93 EUR. That is a bigger proportional jump than on any other route here, because on a longer journey the per-kilometre difference dominates and here there is almost no distance for it to work on.

On a nine-kilometre ride with a capped fare and a rank at the door, a pre-booked transfer has the least to offer of any route on this site. It still makes sense for a party of six with luggage, or where somebody is meeting a child travelling alone. We do not show a bookable transfer for this route. The products the search returns are either for somewhere else or sold as one listing covering several destinations at once, where the price a reader would see is not necessarily this journey's. A listing we cannot tie to this route is not inventory, it is a guess with a button on it.

The rank is at arrivals and needs no booking. On this route the published bands work out below their own minimums, so the minimum is the fare. Fare 4, weekdays 06:00 to 22:00, meters at 1.79 plus 8.59 kilometres at 1.00 EUR, which is 10.38 EUR, and the minimum of 17.37 applies instead. Fare 9, the dearest band, meters at 14.37 and the minimum of 24.93 applies instead. That is the whole arithmetic and the page shows it. Luggage is 0.56 EUR a piece in the boot. No toll on this stretch, and no airport supplement leaving the airport.

How the fare is set
Regulated fare bands published by the airport operator for journeys originating at the airport, not a meter left to itself. Fare 4 applies Monday to Friday on working days from 06:00 to 22:00: 1.79 EUR flag drop plus 1.00 EUR per kilometre, with a 17.37 EUR minimum. Fare 9, the dearest band, applies on Fridays and the eve of public holidays from 22:00, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays outside daytime hours, and during the August Fair and Easter Week: 2.50 EUR plus 1.38 EUR per kilometre, with a 24.93 EUR minimum. A middle band, Fare 5, covers ordinary nights and weekend daytimes at 2.19 EUR plus 1.21 EUR. Luggage is charged at 0.56 EUR a piece in the boot and is not included below. No airport supplement is charged on journeys leaving the airport; 6.27 EUR is charged on journeys to it.

The airport operator lists the services calling at this airport by name: an express line to Malaga city, two local routes, intercity coaches to Marbella, Estepona and Nerja, and the Cercanias C1 railway from the airport's own platform. None of them is named for Torremolinos. The C1 runs to Fuengirola and Aena publishes its times to Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Malaga Maria Zambrano and Malaga centre without naming Torremolinos among them. Torremolinos lies between the airport and Benalmadena and is very likely served, but likely is not verified. We have recorded the connection as unknown rather than unavailable, because those are different claims, and we are not going to print a station or a stop we have not read in a source.

Going back: Torremolinos to Malaga Airport

  • The road

9 km, 10–15 min. Measured on the road, so unchanged either way.

  • The taxi

Same Ayuntamiento de Malaga, as published by Aena rates per kilometre, and no supplement is charged on the journey out, so the metered sum is the same either way: €10 on the cheaper band and €15 on the dearer. What we cannot tell you is whether a supplement applies to a journey ending at the terminal, which some authorities charge and this one may. Treat these as the fare before any such charge.

How we worked out the taxi fare

What the regulated fare is made of

A taxi from this airport does not run on a meter. The fare follows a schedule published by the Ayuntamiento de Malaga, as published by Aena, so it can be worked out in advance rather than quoted. These are the maximums that schedule allows over the measured distance, not a price anyone has offered you.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Torremolinos from Malaga Airport?

About 9 km. Two independent routing engines returned 8.59 and 8.60 kilometres, ten metres apart, which is the closest agreement of any measurement on this site. The airport sits between Malaga city and Torremolinos, which is why it is so short.

How much is a taxi from Malaga Airport to Torremolinos?

Between about 17 and 25 EUR for the vehicle. On this route the meter never reaches the regulated minimum, so the minimum is the fare: 17.37 EUR on weekdays from 06:00 to 22:00 and 24.93 EUR in the dearest band. Luggage is 0.56 EUR a piece.

Why does such a short ride cost that much?

Because the regulator puts a floor under the fare. Nine kilometres at 1.00 EUR a kilometre plus a 1.79 EUR flag drop is 10.38 EUR, which is below the 17.37 EUR minimum, so you pay the minimum. It is not a surcharge and it is not the driver's choice.

Is there a train or bus from the airport to Torremolinos?

We have not been able to verify one. The airport operator names every service calling here and none of them is named for Torremolinos, including the railway, whose published times list Fuengirola, Benalmadena and two Malaga stations. The town is between the airport and Benalmadena so a connection very probably exists; we do not print connections we have not read in a source.

How do I get from Torremolinos back to the airport?

The same nine kilometres. The fare is not the same: Malaga charges a 6.27 EUR supplement on journeys to the airport, which the outward leg does not carry, so a return leg is that much more on top of the minimum.
