Round the city or through it
Our two routing engines disagree about the distance by two and a half kilometres and agree about the time to within two minutes. One takes the motorway ring, which is 29.6 km in 25.2 minutes; the other goes through the city, which is 27.2 km in 26.8. Neither is a toll road, because Mallorca has none. Since a meter charges by the kilometre rather than the minute, which one a driver picks moves the fare by around three euros.
One island, one airport
Mallorca has a single airport handling scheduled flights, so there is no alternative to weigh. What there is instead is a fare that depends on the day: the Ajuntament de Palma's second band covers all day Saturday and Sunday as well as weekday nights, which is a wider window than most regulated tariffs use.
What the journey costs
The regulated taxi works out at 39 to 48 EUR for the vehicle, including the 4.65 EUR airport supplement. Parties of five or six pay a further 3.00 EUR and of seven or eight 6.00. Line A11, the airport coach to Peguera, calls at Santa Ponca, so there is a direct service from the arrivals level. The fare is charged by zone hops rather than a per-route price and the timetable is a seasonal PDF, so we print neither figure here.
