Which airport, and what the journey costs

Airports for Marbella

Marbella is 50 km west of Malaga-Costa del Sol, thirty-five to forty-five minutes on the AP-7. Gibraltar is the only alternative near enough to be asked about and it involves a land border no routing engine models. What is worth settling before you book anything is whether you mean Marbella or Puerto Banus, because they are eight kilometres apart.

Other airports that can reach Marbella

These are further away and TransferSelect does not cover transfers from them. They are listed so the choice above can be judged against something rather than taken on trust.

  • Gibraltar International Airport (GIB)About 75 km by road

About 75 km, half as far again as Malaga's 50, and the drive crosses an international border whose queue no routing engine models. Occasionally cheaper to fly into; rarely simpler. TransferSelect does not cover transfers from it.

  • Seville Airport (SVQ)About 270 km by road

More than 250 km and around three hours. Not an alternative for Marbella in any practical sense.

The fast road is a toll road

The AP-7 on this stretch is tolled, which nothing on the Costa Blanca routes this site covers is. It is not a detour taken to run up a meter: forbidding tolls returns 55.2 km and about 53 minutes on the free A-7 coast road against 51.4 km and 42 minutes on the paid one, so the toll road is both shorter and quicker. The toll itself is not part of a taxi fare and we have not verified what it costs.

Marbella and Puerto Banus are not the same address

Puerto Banus measures 58 km from the airport against 50 to Marbella, and our two routing engines agree on both to within a few hundred metres. It is a separate place with its own search demand rather than a district you would walk to from the old town, which is why we do not average the two into one figure.

Gibraltar, and why we still say Malaga

Gibraltar is about 75 km from Marbella, half as far again as Malaga, and the drive crosses an international border whose queue no routing engine models. Seville is more than 250 km and around three hours. Neither is a serious alternative unless a fare is dramatically lower, and we do not cover transfers from either.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport should I fly into for Marbella?

Malaga-Costa del Sol, at 50 km and thirty-five to forty-five minutes. Gibraltar at about 75 km is the only other one near enough to consider, and it adds a land border.

How far is Marbella from Malaga Airport?

About 50 km. Two routing engines agree to within 20 metres at the bus station and 240 at the old town.

Is Puerto Banus the same as Marbella?

For a transfer, no. Puerto Banus is 58 km from the airport against 50 to Marbella, and they are separate places. Give a driver the one you mean.

Is there a toll on the way?

Yes, on the AP-7, which is the quick road. It is separate from the taxi meter and we have not verified what it costs.
