Which airport, and what the journey costs

Airports for Benalmadena

Benalmadena Costa is 12 km from Malaga-Costa del Sol and reachable by a train that leaves from a platform at the airport in eighteen minutes. That makes it the one place on this site where the public option is quicker than some of our measured drive times. The complication is that Benalmadena is two settlements at different heights, and only one of them has the station.

Two Benalmadenas, nine kilometres apart

The Costa is on the seafront and has the railway station; the pueblo is the old village up the hill. Our two routing engines agree to within twenty metres on the drive to the coast, at about 11.5 km, and both put the pueblo at around 20. That gap is a hill rather than a routing disagreement, and it decides both the fare and whether the train is any use to you.

A train, not a coach

The Cercanias C1 runs between Malaga Centro Alameda and Fuengirola and calls at the airport's own station. The airport operator publishes the journey to Benalmadena at approximately eighteen minutes. It serves the Costa and Arroyo de la Miel. The fare is the one thing not published: Aena links to a rates page rather than printing a figure, so we have a verified service and no price.

What a taxi costs, and why the range is odd

The regulated fare runs from about 17 to 31 EUR for the vehicle. The lower end is not a metered figure at all: over 11.5 km the meter reads below the 17.37 EUR minimum, so the minimum applies. The upper end is metered, in the dearest band, over the longer climb to the pueblo. The range therefore spans a fare band and a hill at once.
