Which airport, and what the journey costs
Airports for Altea
Altea has no airport of its own and Alicante-Elche is 64 km away, about fifty minutes by road. Nothing else is close enough to argue about: Valencia is more than twice as far and Region de Murcia further still. What is worth knowing before you book is that Altea is really two places at different heights, and which one you are staying in changes the journey more than the airport does.

Other airports that can reach Altea
These are further away and TransferSelect does not cover transfers from them. They are listed so the choice above can be judged against something rather than taken on trust.
- Valencia Airport (VLC)About 145 km by road
Well over twice the distance from Alicante, at about 145 km against 64 km, and close to two hours of driving. Worth pricing only if a flight into it is much cheaper. TransferSelect does not cover transfers from it.
- Region de Murcia International Airport (RMU)About 160 km by road
On the far side of Alicante and more than two and a half hours of driving. Not a practical arrival airport for Altea.
Why the alternatives do not compete
Valencia is around 145 km from Altea and Region de Murcia around 160, against 64 km from Alicante. Both turn a fifty-minute transfer into something close to two hours, and a cheaper fare into either would have to be very much cheaper to survive that. We do not cover transfers from either airport.
The old town is up a hill
The church with the blue domes stands at the top of a hill behind narrow, partly restricted streets; the beach, the marina and the seafront are on the flat below. Our two routing engines agree to within 100 metres on the drive to the seafront and disagree by about five kilometres on the climb into the old town, which is a real property of the place rather than a routing error. A driver can usually get close to an old-town address but not always to the door, and the regulated taxi range on the route page carries that difference at its upper end.
Getting there without a car
An ALSA coach to Calpe calls at Altea after Alicante, Alicante train station and Alfaz del Pi. That the service exists, who runs it, where it boards and that it stops at Altea are verified from the airport operator's own list. Its fare, its first and last departures and how long it takes are not, and we do not print them. It is not a service run for Altea, which is why it takes appreciably longer than the drive.
Frequently asked questions
Which airport should I fly into for Altea?
Alicante-Elche, at 64 km and about fifty minutes. Valencia is around 145 km and Region de Murcia around 160. Neither is a practical alternative unless the fare difference is very large.
How far is Altea from Alicante Airport?
About 64 km. Two independent routing engines agree to within 100 metres on the journey to the seafront, where a transfer actually sets down, and differ by around five kilometres on the climb into the old town.
Does it matter where in Altea I am staying?
More than on most of this coast. The old town sits on a hill behind narrow and partly restricted streets while the beach and marina are on the flat below, so an old-town address can mean the last stretch is on foot and the taxi fare lands at the upper end of its range.
Is there a bus from Alicante Airport to Altea?
Yes, in the sense that an ALSA coach to Calpe stops there. The airport operator lists it and names Altea among its stops, and it boards on the departures roadway. We have not been able to verify its fare or its timetable from a primary source, so we do not print either.
