There is a coach, but it is the Calpe service calling in on the way rather than a run for Altea, and we could not verify its fare or its timetable.

Altea is worth planning around one fact the other towns on this site do not have: the old town is up a hill behind narrow, partly restricted streets, and the beach and marina are on the flat below. Where you are staying changes the answer more than the price does. For an address on the seafront any option ends near the door. For the old town the taxi rank is the practical answer, because a booked transfer would be better still and we could not find one on this route that passes our checks.

The streets above the church are narrow and partly restricted, which is the same thing that made two routing engines disagree by five kilometres about how to reach them. Take the rank and give the driver the street name, not the town: they will get you as close as a vehicle can. A coach on the main road leaves you the climb with your luggage.

Aena lists an ALSA coach from the airport to Calpe that calls at Altea, after Alicante, Alicante train station and Alfaz del Pi. That the service exists, who runs it, where it boards and that it stops at Altea are all verified from the airport operator's own list. Its fare, its first and last departures, how often it runs and how long it takes are not, because ALSA's booking engine sits behind a queue that blocks access and no primary source publishing this line's timetable was found. We are not going to guess at any of them. Two things follow from what is verified: it is not a service run for Altea, so it takes longer than the drive, and it sets down on the main road rather than in the old town.

About 64 km by road. Two independent routing engines agree to within 100 metres on the journey to the seafront. They disagree by about five kilometres on the climb into the old town, which is a property of Altea rather than a routing error, so 64 km is the figure both support and the taxi range carries the difference.
How long does the transfer take?
Fifty to fifty-five minutes of free-flow driving. Most of it is motorway, but the last stretch is the N-332 along the seafront, a single carriageway that costs more time than its distance suggests. The figure excludes traffic, so treat it as a floor.
