The city is 11 km from its own airport, fifteen to twenty minutes on the Ma-19. This is the shortest route on this site and the only one where every option is cheap: the A1 coach is 5.00 EUR a head, the regulated taxi 21 to 23 EUR for the whole vehicle. It is also the only route here where the airport's minimum fare is what you actually pay.

Which transfer should you choose?

Both routing engines returned 11.30 km, to the metre, because there is only one sensible road and no ring to weigh against a crossing. That short distance does something that happens nowhere else on this site: the meter runs to 16.06 EUR on the weekday band, which is below Palma's 16.95 EUR airport minimum, so the minimum is charged instead. You are paying a floor, not a fare, and the arithmetic below shows it.

You are on your own with a bag you can carry

Bus

Five euros, direct, from the arrivals level. Against a 21 EUR taxi split one way, this is the clearest case for the coach anywhere on this site.

There are four or more of you

Taxi

Four A1 tickets are 20 EUR and the taxi is 21 for the vehicle, door to door. At four passengers the coach has stopped being cheaper; at five or six, allowing the 3.00 EUR party supplement, the taxi is well ahead.

Taxi

The night and weekend band lifts the fare to about 23 EUR, which is two euros over the weekday floor. The rank works all night; check the coach's last departure before you rely on it.

A private transfer is arranged in advance and the driver meets you in arrivals. On this route it is the expensive option by a wide margin: the products we found run from 188 EUR for a private car up to two, and 238 EUR for a six-seat van, against a regulated taxi at 21 to 23 EUR for the same door-to-door journey. That is roughly nine to eleven times the metered fare over eleven kilometres. It buys a named driver holding a sign and a fixed price agreed before you fly, and on this particular route that is all it buys.

The rank is at Terminal floor 0, arrivals, and the airport operator says plainly to use the signed rank rather than anyone offering a service elsewhere. This is the one route on the site where the floor is what you pay. Over 11.30 kilometres the weekday meter reaches 16.06 EUR, below Palma's 16.95 EUR minimum for journeys from the airport, so the minimum is charged instead. The practical consequence is that the fare barely moves: 21 EUR on a Tuesday morning, 23 on a Sunday night. Every other route from this airport is long enough that the minimum never comes into it.

How the fare is set
Regulated fares set by the Ajuntament de Palma. Two bands: laborable, Monday to Friday 07:00 to 21:00, at 2.50 EUR flag drop plus 1.20 EUR per kilometre; and festivo or nocturno, covering weekday nights from 21:00 to 07:00 and the whole of Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays, at 2.85 EUR plus 1.35 EUR. A 4.65 EUR airport and port supplement is charged, and a minimum fare of 16.95 EUR applies to journeys from the airport. Parties of five or six pay a further 3.00 EUR and parties of seven or eight 6.00 EUR, neither of which is included below. A 4.75 EUR supplement applies over Christmas and New Year.

Line A1 runs the airport to the city centre and is operated by EMT, Palma's own bus company, rather than by the island network, which is why it has a price and the other airport coaches on this site do not. The published single is 5.00 EUR against 2.00 for an ordinary urban journey, and it includes no transfer: the operator states that A1 and A2 carry airport journeys only, with no intermediate trips allowed, so it is not a way of reaching anywhere else. It boards at Terminal floor 0 in arrivals and again at floor 2 in departures. Children under five travel free with a paying adult, and a contactless bank card is cheaper for a group of up to five, from 40 per cent off the first person rising toward 60.

Going back: Palma to Palma Airport

  • The road

11 km, 15–20 min. Measured on the road, so unchanged either way.

  • The taxi

Same Ajuntament de Palma rates per kilometre. What we cannot carry over is the €4.65 airport supplement, which our figure records for a journey that starts at the terminal; nothing we hold says how it is treated on one that ends there. Without it: €16 by day, €19 at night and on Sundays. A floor, not an answer.

  • Where the coach leaves from

EMT Palma sets down at Palma city centre. That is where you board going back.

Departure times from Palma are not verified. The times on this page are departures from the airport, and reading them backwards would invent a timetable.

How we worked out the taxi fare

What the regulated fare is made of

A taxi from this airport does not run on a meter. The fare follows a schedule published by the Ajuntament de Palma, so it can be worked out in advance rather than quoted. These are the maximums that schedule allows over the measured distance, not a price anyone has offered you.

What each traveller pays

The taxi fare is for the vehicle, so its cost per head falls as the party grows. A coach seat does not. Even split four ways the taxi is €5.25 a head against €5, so on price the coach stays cheaper at every party size on this axis.

The taxi line is the floor of the regulated range, the daytime fare over the shorter measured distance, so it is the most favourable figure the taxi can honestly be given. Price is not the only question: the coach takes longer and does not go to your door.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Palma from Palma Airport?

11 km. Both routing engines returned 11.30 km from the arrivals kerbside, agreeing exactly, because the Ma-19 is the only sensible road.

How much is a taxi from Palma Airport to Palma city?

21 to 23 EUR for the vehicle. On the weekday band the meter falls below the airport's 16.95 EUR minimum, so the minimum plus the 4.65 EUR supplement is what is charged.

How much is the bus from Palma Airport to the city?

5.00 EUR for a single on line A1, the city operator's published airport fare. It allows no transfer and no intermediate stops.

Is a private transfer worth it into Palma?

On price, no. The products we found are 188 to 238 EUR against a 21 to 23 EUR regulated taxi over the same eleven kilometres. It buys a fixed price and a driver waiting with a sign, nothing more.

How long does the transfer take?

Fifteen to twenty minutes without traffic. Traffic matters more here than on any other route from this airport, because the last two kilometres are city streets.
