Nerja is 69 km east of Malaga-Costa del Sol, fifty to sixty minutes on the A-7. Unlike the resorts west of the airport this side of the coast has no toll road, so the fast way and the free way are the same road. The regulated taxi works out at 70 to 107 EUR for the vehicle depending on the fare band, and Aena lists a coach running from the airport with Nerja as its named destination.

Which transfer should you choose?

Two things make this route different from the western half of the same cluster. There is no toll, so nothing is added to the meter for taking the quick road. And the taxi range is unusually wide for the distance, because our two routing engines differ by five kilometres on the approach to the Balcon de Europa: the drive to the town is agreed, the last stretch into the old core is not. Where you are staying therefore moves the fare more here than the time of day moves it on a shorter route.

Taxi

Fare 9 applies on Friday and pre-holiday evenings from 22:00, on weekend and holiday nights, and through the August Fair and Easter Week outside daytime hours. Over sixty-nine kilometres that is about 107 EUR against about 70 in the weekday band. The rank still needs no booking, but if the flight time is movable this is the route where moving it is worth the most money on the site.

Taxi

The regulated fare is for the vehicle, not per head. Split four ways even the dearest band is under thirty euros a person for a door-to-door journey of nearly seventy kilometres, and there is no toll to add.

Bus

A single traveller paying 70 EUR or more is buying three empty seats. Aena lists a Nerja line from arrivals with Nerja as its named end. We have not been able to verify its fare or its timetable, so ask at the stop rather than plan around it.

Taxi

Our two routing engines agree to within 800 metres on the drive to Nerja and differ by five kilometres on the approach to the Balcon de Europa, where the streets are narrow. That difference is most of why the fare range is as wide as it is, and it is worth giving the driver the street rather than the landmark.

A private transfer is arranged in advance and the driver meets you in arrivals with your name on a board. Priced at 120 to 320 EUR for the vehicle, as recently checked at Viator on 11 September 2026. Against a regulated taxi at 76 to 91 EUR that is a premium rather than a saving, and what it buys over fifty-eight kilometres is a fixed price and a driver who waits for the aircraft. Until 11 September this page said we showed no transfer for Nerja, and named the product we were refusing. It is the same product. What changed is that its own start description - "We will be waiting for you at the arrivals hall" - is now treated as evidence of an airport pickup, because it is a statement by the supplier about where the driver stands rather than a word in a title.

The rank is at arrivals and needs no booking. The airport operator publishes the bands that govern journeys starting here and there are three. Fare 4 covers Monday to Friday on working days from 06:00 to 22:00, at 1.79 EUR to start plus 1.00 EUR a kilometre. Fare 5 covers ordinary nights and weekend daytimes. Fare 9, the dearest, covers Friday and pre-holiday evenings from 22:00, weekend and holiday nights, and the August Fair and Easter Week outside daytime hours, at 2.50 EUR plus 1.38 EUR a kilometre. Each band has a minimum fare; on a journey this long none of them binds. Over sixty-nine kilometres the spread between the cheapest and dearest band is more than thirty euros, which is the single biggest thing to know before you land. Luggage is 0.56 EUR a piece in the boot. There is no toll on this side of Malaga, so unlike the run to Marbella nothing is added for the road itself.

How the fare is set
Regulated fare bands published by the airport operator for journeys originating at the airport, not a meter left to itself. Fare 4 applies Monday to Friday on working days from 06:00 to 22:00: 1.79 EUR flag drop plus 1.00 EUR per kilometre, with a 17.37 EUR minimum. Fare 9, the dearest band, applies on Fridays and the eve of public holidays from 22:00, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays outside daytime hours, and during the August Fair and Easter Week: 2.50 EUR plus 1.38 EUR per kilometre, with a 24.93 EUR minimum. A middle band, Fare 5, covers ordinary nights and weekend daytimes at 2.19 EUR plus 1.21 EUR. Neither minimum binds on a journey this long. Luggage is charged at 0.56 EUR a piece in the boot and is not included below. No airport supplement is charged on journeys leaving the airport; 6.27 EUR is charged on journeys to it.

Aena lists a Nerja-Airport line among the intercity buses calling at the airport, boarding on floor 0 at arrivals, which is where every bus at this airport boards. Nerja is the line's named end rather than a stop on the way somewhere else. That much is verified from the airport operator's own list. The fare, the first and last departures, how often it runs and how long it takes are not: Aena publishes the express city line's 4 EUR fare directly but sends you to the operator for the intercity lines. On a seventy-kilometre journey where the taxi starts at 70 EUR, the coach fare is the whole decision for anyone travelling alone, and it is precisely the number we do not have.

Going back: Nerja to Malaga Airport

  • The road

69 km, 50–60 min. Measured on the road, so unchanged either way.

  • The taxi

Same Ayuntamiento de Malaga, as published by Aena rates per kilometre, and no supplement is charged on the journey out, so the metered sum is the same either way: €70 on the cheaper band and €107 on the dearer. What we cannot tell you is whether a supplement applies to a journey ending at the terminal, which some authorities charge and this one may. Treat these as the fare before any such charge.

How we worked out the taxi fare

What the regulated fare is made of

A taxi from this airport does not run on a meter. The fare follows a schedule published by the Ayuntamiento de Malaga, as published by Aena, so it can be worked out in advance rather than quoted. These are the maximums that schedule allows over the measured distance, not a price anyone has offered you.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Nerja from Malaga Airport?

About 69 km. Two independent routing engines were run to two points: the town centre, where they agree to within 780 metres, and the Balcon de Europa, where they differ by five kilometres because the last stretch is through narrow streets. 69 km is the figure both support for the journey to the town.

How much is a taxi from Malaga Airport to Nerja?

Between about 70 and 107 EUR for the vehicle, not per person, depending on the fare band. The airport operator publishes three: a weekday daytime band at 1.00 EUR a kilometre, a middle band at 1.21, and a dearest band at 1.38 covering Friday and pre-holiday evenings, weekend and holiday nights, and the August Fair and Easter Week. Luggage is 0.56 EUR a piece.

Is there a toll on the way to Nerja?

No. The toll motorway runs west of Malaga towards Marbella and Estepona; the A-7 east towards Nerja is free, so the quickest road is also the one with nothing to pay.

Is there a bus from Malaga Airport to Nerja?

Yes. The airport operator lists a Nerja-Airport line among the intercity buses, boarding on floor 0 at arrivals, with Nerja as the line's named end. We have not been able to verify its fare or its timetable, because Aena links the intercity lines to the operator rather than publishing them itself.

Should I fly into Granada instead?

Nerja is at the eastern end of this coast, so Granada is nearer than it is to anywhere else in the cluster: about 104 km against 69 from Malaga. It is still half as far again, roughly an hour and a quarter of driving, and it has far fewer flights. Worth a look only if the fare difference is large.

How do I get from Nerja back to Malaga Airport?

The same road and the same distance, so the driving time is unchanged. The fare is not: Malaga charges a 6.27 EUR supplement on journeys to the airport, which the outward leg does not carry, so budget that on top of the same per-kilometre rate and band.
