Alicante-Elche is the city's own airport, about 13 km from the centre, and this is the one route on this site where the bus is the obvious answer rather than the cheap one. Line C-6 runs between the terminal and the middle of Alicante every day of the year, calls at the railway station, and meets the Metropolitan Tram at Alfonso X El Sabio and Plaza de los Luceros, which is how the rest of the coast is reached without a car. A taxi is 21 to 30 EUR for the vehicle and takes fifteen to twenty minutes.

Which transfer should you choose?
Everywhere else on this site the question is how to cover a distance that public transport handles badly. Here it handles it well: a service into the city centre, every day of the year, from a stop outside the terminal, connecting to the tram network. That changes what the other options are for. A taxi is worth it when there are several of you, when you land late, or when your address is nowhere near the C-6's line. A pre-booked transfer is worth it for the same reasons plus luggage. Neither is worth it simply because it is faster, because over 13 km it is not by much.

The C-6 goes to the centre every day of the year and stops at the railway station on the way. If your address is near its line or near a tram stop, this is the option to try first rather than the one to settle for.
You are heading further up the coast

The C-6 meets the Metropolitan Tram at Alfonso X El Sabio and Plaza de los Luceros, and the tram is how the coast north of the city is reached without a car. Getting into Alicante is often the first leg of a longer journey rather than the whole of it.

A private transfer is arranged in advance and the driver meets you in arrivals, which on this route is the thinnest case on the site. The journey is fifteen to twenty minutes, there is a taxi rank at the door with a capped fare, and there is a bus into the centre every day of the year. What is left is the situations the other two handle badly: an address away from the C-6 line with more luggage than you want to carry, a party of five or six, or a late landing where you would rather have arranged everything at home. Three transfers into the city are bookable here. Getting to three took a change to how we check relevance: because the destination is the airport's own city, the word Alicante appears in every product title on every route, and the first search passed eleven products of which eight were transfers to Denia, Benidorm, Campello, Cartagena and elsewhere.

The rank is on the arrivals roadway and needs no booking. The airport sits in Elche and the city is a different municipality, so the fare follows the Generalitat's official interurban tariff with a fixed airport supplement on top, not a meter left to itself. Working the published maximums over the measured distances gives about 21 EUR by day and about 30 EUR at night, on Sundays and on holidays. The range is wide in proportion for a reason worth knowing before you get in: there are two ways to drive this, and they are not the same length. The direct road up the Avenida de Elche is about 12 km and slower; the A-70 motorway is about 15 km and quicker. A driver taking the motorway is not going the long way round to inflate the meter, and the upper end of our range covers it.

Aena states that line C-6 runs between the terminal and the centre of Alicante every day of the year, boarding at the bus stop on the departures roadway. It stops at the railway station and other key points in the city, and at Alfonso X El Sabio and Plaza de los Luceros it connects with the Metropolitan Tram. That is the whole of what the airport operator publishes and all of it is verified here. What is not verified is the fare and how often it runs. Aena points at the operator's own pages for both and those pages refuse our requests, so we are not going to print a price or a frequency we cannot stand behind. The connection matters more than either number: the tram from Luceros is the reason a visitor without a car can reach most of this coast, and it is the only route on this site where the public option is the one to try first.

Why is the taxi range so wide for such a short trip?
Because the two ways of driving it differ by more than three kilometres. The urban road is shorter and slower, the motorway longer and quicker, and the fare is charged per kilometre. Our lower bound is the daytime tariff over the shorter road and the upper is the night tariff over the longer one, so the range covers whichever combination you get.
How do I get from Alicante back to the airport?
The same C-6 line runs in both directions and the same roads apply to a taxi, so the driving time is unchanged. The taxi tariff per kilometre is identical either way, but the airport supplement in our figure is recorded for a journey that starts at the terminal and we cannot say how it is treated on one that ends there, so the return fare is the same sum minus a component we will not vouch for.
