Airports for Rethymno

Rethymno is the town between Crete's two airports, and that is the whole question here. Heraklion is 83 km east along the north-coast expressway, and a transfer from there starts at 135 EUR.

Between two airports, and the map is misleading

Chania airport is closer to Rethymno in a straight line. By road the two are within about ten kilometres of each other, because Chania's airport is on the Akrotiri peninsula and the drive has to come off it first. So the answer is not the one the map suggests, and for most travellers it will be decided by which airport their flight lands at rather than by distance.

Why only the Heraklion drive is published here

Our two routing engines return 82.53 and 82.54 kilometres from Heraklion, ten metres apart. From Chania they return 78.00 and 66.38, twelve kilometres and eighteen minutes apart, which is not a difference of opinion about speed but two different roads. This site would rather publish one measured journey than two of which one is a guess.
