Which airport, and what the journey costs

Airports for Florence

Florence is about 101 km from Pisa airport, seventy-five to eighty-five minutes. The distance is the least certain on this site because there are three genuinely different roads, and the one that is free is also the shortest.

The free road is the short one

OSRM returned 105.65 km and Valhalla 97.12. Asked to avoid tolls, Valhalla returns 88.11 km by the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno superstrada, covering it in 81.4 minutes against 81.8 on the tolled A1. Nine kilometres shorter and no slower. That is unusual: on the Algarve routes this site covers, the toll road saves a quarter of an hour.

A restricted centre is what a driver is for

Florence's historic centre is a limited traffic zone and which streets reach which hotel is not obvious from a map. That, rather than the hundred kilometres, is what a transfer buys here.

What a transfer costs, and why the quoted number is not it

A private transfer from Pisa is 370 euros for a car carrying up to two in the daytime and 412 for a larger vehicle up to eight, rising to 444 and 493.50 at night. The figure listed on the product is 185, which is the fare per head at two passengers rather than the price of the car: at three the supplier charges 131 each, at four 98.50, and those multiply to 393 and 394. A vehicle total that barely moves within a size is how a per-head label can be told from a per-head price. A second operator prices the same route the same way, at about 320 and about 415.
