Which airport, and what the journey costs

Airports for Benidorm

Benidorm has no airport of its own, and unlike most resorts there is no second option worth weighing. Alicante-Elche is 58 km away. The next airports in either direction, Valencia to the north and Region de Murcia to the south, are both about 150 km, roughly two and a half times as far. For practical purposes the question of which airport to use for Benidorm has one answer.

Every figure here is the same one the route guide shows, read from the same record. Prices say what kind of price they are, and a coach fare charged per person is not comparable with a vehicle price without doing the arithmetic for your own group.

Why the alternatives do not compete

A hundred and fifty kilometres is not a detour, it is a different journey. It turns a 40 to 45 minute drive into something closer to two hours, and it removes the cheap option entirely: the direct coach that makes this transfer inexpensive runs from Alicante, and nothing equivalent runs from Valencia or Murcia. A fare difference would have to be substantial, and shared across the whole party, before the extra driving and the cost of covering it made sense. Both are listed on this page so the choice can be judged rather than taken on trust, but neither is a close call.

The road is motorway most of the way

The route leaves the airport on the N-338 and runs on the A-70 and then the AP-7 to Benidorm. That matters for how the journey behaves: it is a fast corridor, and the free-flowing drive of 40 to 45 minutes is genuinely achievable outside peak periods. It is also the main artery down this stretch of coast, so summer traffic and weekend movements do tell on it. The scheduled coach time of 45 minutes to the bus station is a good working figure for planning, whichever way you travel.

Benidorm is compact, but its stops are not central to everyone

The town is dense rather than sprawling, which works in a traveller's favour: distances within it are short. The coach sets down at Benidorm Bus Station, and some services continue to Avenida Europa. Neither is your hotel, and the bus station in particular sits away from the beachfront where most accommodation is. From either stop it is a short taxi ride or a walk with light luggage, so the honest comparison is coach fare plus that last leg against a door to door fare, not coach fare alone.

Frequently asked questions

Which airport should I fly into for Benidorm?

Alicante-Elche, at 58 km. It is the only airport close enough to be practical: Valencia and Region de Murcia are both roughly 150 km away, about two and a half times the distance.

Does Benidorm have its own airport?

No. Benidorm has no commercial airport of its own. Alicante-Elche is the airport we cover for reaching it.

Is it worth flying to Valencia or Murcia for Benidorm?

Rarely. Both are about 150 km away, which is roughly two hours of driving, and neither has the cheap direct coach that makes the Alicante transfer inexpensive. The fare saving would have to be large to cover the difference.

How do I get from the airport to Benidorm without a car?

ALSA runs a direct coach from the airport departures roadway to Benidorm Bus Station, scheduled at 45 minutes. The route guide compares it with the taxi and a private transfer, with the fares each is sold at.
